Gloucestershire, pt 2 – Michelle Baker is Club Secretary of The King’s Summoners, who play in Dursley. Gloucestershire, pt 3 – Jessica Brereton has recently set up a casual play group based in Stroud. Gloucestershire, pt 4 – John Freeman runs casual Magic nights every Tuesday in the Basement Bar of his own pub: The Cotswolds Inn, 17 Portland Street, Cheltenham. All welcome and – as the licensee is the chief instigator and a Magic player – a good night should be guaranteed. You can phone the pub on 01242 526485. Peterborough – find out more from Gnome Trader. Portsmouth – Squirrel Games organise events from their shop. Swindon – Tony Edwards runs tournaments on the second Sunday of each month. Doors open at 11:00 for a 12:00 start, at four quid per person. Drop Tony a line for details, or pop over to the Swindon website. You can now chip in on their forum. |
Thanks to all the players who have supported tournaments in Bristol and Bath, but I have decided to stop organising Magic events. I have some wonderful memories from events as a player, judge and organiser and wish you all the very best.
PTQ Prague – Bristol Sunday 5th March 2006
Congratulations to Alastair McClare, who won the PTQ at Bristol for Prague out of a strong field of fifty-seven players. Alastair joins another local player, Paul Lim, who won the PTQ at Newport (see below) – so good luck to both of them in Prague!
The next event at Bristol is the two-headed giant Champs on Sunday 19th March, back at our old venue of the Stag & Hounds – which is within easy walking distance of both train and bus stations, and does a good Sunday lunch. Registration is at 10.00am for a 10.45am start. This is a Limited format tournament. If you are hoping to come, please pre-register on my new e-mail address: claire.will@btinternet.com
PTQ Prague – Newport Saturday 11th February 2006
The finalists, watched by judge Iowyn and fan!
Thank you to the fifty-six players who turned out to do battle at Newport. The final top eight were: Jan H. Johansen Tom Demeranville Paul Qi-En Lim Stuart D. Wright Nicholas A. Lovett Richard Hagon David C. Lewis Dan Jenkins
Congratulations to Paul Lim who won the PTQ, beating Jan Johansen in the final.
Congratulations to Steve Woodward, who won the Bath Counties Event playing White Weenie (splashing red) against a small but select field, and Adam Barnett, who won the Bristol Counties Event playing a Mono-Blue Control deck.
Ravnica: City of Guilds Prerelease – Bath 24th September 2005
More than 80 players packed into the plush – though somewhat warm – new venue to enjoy the multicolour Magic of Ravnica. Having three boosters made it easier to find enough creatures and gold cards to build viable decks. After seven rounds of deep thinking (unless you were playing a Boros deck), Tom Demeranville emerged undefeated, his two Selesnya Guildmages leading an army of saprolings to victory (backed up by a Woebringer Demon)!
English Nationals 6th & 7th August 2005
Congratulations to Mark Knight, who came second at the English Nationals up in Donnington, losing his only match of the weekend in the final itself, to Richard Moore. Mark joins Rich and Sam Gomersall to form the English team for the World Championships in Japan later this year.
Saviors of Kamigawa Prerelease – Bath & Bristol 21st & 22nd May 2005
These two pre-releases were very busy. Congratulations to Steve Woodward and Manveer Samra, who won a flight each at Bath on Saturday, and to James King, who won at Bristol on Sunday. Speaking of that Sunday, thank you to everyone who helped to set up, etc., while the luckless TO (me!) was locked out of the venue – never had that happen before.

Magic – so what’s that...? Magic is owned lock, stock and barrel by Wizards of the Coast, Inc. The ideas, the graphics, the very word itself belongs to them. Along with lots of other stuff... much of it damn fine stuff as well. Please don’t take our word for it – go and have a look... |
